October 2021

It breaks my heart to write this months update.  On October 1, at 7:30 pm Bear was hit and killed by a car.  There are so many "what ifs".  I had just dropped Isaak off at his friend, Addie's house to go to an Escape Room for her birthday party. What if I'd taken Bear with me?  As I drove home, I noticed two women walking down the street towards our home with two dogs. When I got home, the Westovers were at our house dropping off Evie so that Lila could babysit her while all the adults went to dinner.  As soon as I walked in Bear ran over to me and jumped up and down around my legs. Evie also ran over and gave me a hug. What if I'd picked Bear up right then?  Then Kristi came to the door and Bear slipped out as Kristi stood there talking to us.  What if I'd gone after him?  Instead I stood there trying to get Willie Wonka on the tv for Lila.  Well, Bear spotted those two dogs across the street and went across the street to see them.  Based on his head trauma, I can tell that he was on his way back to us when he got hit.  The poor man that hit him shouted to Shaun (who came out the door to see where Bear was) that someone's dog had been hit.  Shaun ran to get his shoes and the rest of us ran outside.  Amber kept the kids inside so they wouldn't see, and when I got there Kristi told me not to come any closer, that he was already gone.  I just turned around and cried on Shaun's shoulder for a couple minutes, then went inside to tell Lila and Porter.  Tom, Kristi, Amber, Chad and Shaun cleaned up the road, and wrapped bear in a blanket so that we could come out and see him.  We went and got Isaak from the Escape Room when he was finished and told him what had happened.  It was such a hard night for all of us! The above picture is the last picture taken of Bear (on accident!) the day he died
And here's the last photo of him after his death.
Shaun and Isaak built him a coffin the next day and we drove up to the property to bury him
Avery coming the next day to comfort Lila

We all felt so loved.  Lila's friends did this, Brody  brought Porter a gift, Hailey brought Isaak chocolate, and Kristi and Tom brought us dinner and flowers right after it happened.
Conference doodles
Mid conference playgrounding

Girl's night!  We went to Cross E Ranch and had a great time!

Pig racing!
Shaun knew how much I was missing my doggy, so when he found some puppies for sale on the side of the road he drove me over there to soak in some snuggles
Visit to the property.  Porter spent quite a bit of time right here and cried.  He said over and over that Bear was his brother.
Meet Scrappy! Our very own family rat.  One rule, you find him, you hide him!
In October Shaun decided to sell our Ranger.  Someone offered him this truck in trade....... come on, we'd be kind of stupid NOT to!!

Over fall break Shaun had to go to Ohio for a conference so I convinced him that the kids and I needed to go to Disneyland!  Lila's prepping
But before we could go to Disneyland we shopped for puppies!  Here's Pepper!! We still had to wait until Oct 29 to get her!

Scrappy!
Isaak, Gavin, Brody, Porter, Riley and Lila

Hansen Halloween party!

And we flew out at 5:45 the next morning for Disneyland!!  Shaun's flight was 15 min after ours, so we all went to the airport together.  When we arrived we ubered to the hotel, then went to Downtown Disney to see the sights!

Then froze at the pool at the hotel before crashing for the night

Next day, Disneyland!!

Next day, California Adventure! Then back to Disneyland in the evening

End of the season game!!

Halloween was on a Sunday this year, so Friday before was the parade at school!

And.......right after school Porter came home with a fever.  Gavin had just been diagnosed with Covid, so I had him take an at home test and it was POSITIVE! We were supposed to leave in 10 min to go pick up our brand new puppy!  I called the lady in a panic, not knowing what to do.  She said to come get the puppy anyway!

Porter getting some Vitamin D to help him recover faster. On Saturday, (the next day) Lila and I came down with it, then Isaak got it.  Shaun had had it the last year, so now we're all immune!

Halloween celebrations at home with Covid.  We did get in the truck later that night and drive around looking at all the Halloween decorations.
Puppy cuteness!!!
