Oh my goodness, March! What an interesting month you have turned out to be. It started normally enough. Since December there have been reports about the Corona Virus in China. But we'd heard reports like this before every couple years. There was the Swine Flu, Sars, Zika, Ebola....just more news stories. Nope. Mid March, schools shut down, church was cancelled, restaurants closed except for drive throughs, all of our dance competitions, soccer games, practices, lessons, and everything else cancelled. We're practicing Social Distancing. Basically that means you stay home unless you really need to get food and go to work. The stores are all picked over. People are so worried that the economy will collapse, or that they'll get sick and be quarantined for a couple weeks so people have cleared out the shelves at the stores. You literally can not buy toilet paper. You are very lucky if you can find some. Thank goodness I have a few packages in our food storage. Shaun has sent all of his employees home and he's all alone at the office each day. Lots of people have lost jobs. Shaun and I were supposed to go on a trip to San Diego in May, that's been cancelled. We were also supposed to go on a cruise in June and the kids were going to fly out to Missouri and spend a couple weeks with Angela's family and there's a good chance we won't be able to do that, either. It's definitely different times.
The kids have settled into school at home well and will likely be home for the remainder of the school year. We don't allow kids to come play. Technically we're not supposed to allow them to play with friends at all, but we let them play with the neighbor kids as long as they all stay outside. All in all, I've enjoyed the slowed down pace, and I think the kids will come through on the other side of this with a bigger appreciation for the little things.

The morning after they announced that school is cancelled, Porter woke up and came in my room at 3am. He never did go back to sleep, so I decided we should go do an early morning shopping trip and try and get some things while (hopefully) the shelves were restocked. Unfortunately, the store wouldn't let us in because they started new hours to help give the workers time to stock the shelves. Porter saw the lights of the temple in the distance and asked if we could go see the temple. We had a sweet moment in that parking lot and said a little prayer while we were there.

Porter's last play date before we started Social Distancing. His birthday was on a Sunday, so we had his buddy birthday party on the Friday night before. It was just him and Ben. They ate pizza, played X Box, and enjoyed being together.

Grandma Jo had planned Sunday dinner weeks ahead for Porter's birthday. Lots of fun with an Easter Egg Hunt, too! This was the last time we had a social outing! We miss people!

So school at home started on Wed Mar 18. I woke up early that morning, worked out, and took a shower. As I stood there in my towel, the ground began to shake. Shaun jumped out of bed and we both ran to the kids rooms. Porter was sleeping in Isaak's room and the big ruler that's in his room fell just before Shaun opened that door and narrowly missed the trundle bed that Porter was sleeping in. I opened Lila's door and we held each other and stood in the door frame. The shaking stopped and we had the kids run and get under the kitchen table. Poor Bear was hiding under my bed and didn't want to come out. The earthquake originated in Magna and was a 5.7. Not considered to be a big one, and I don't want to find out what a big one would feel like. My worst nightmare is that there will be an earthquake while I'm naked in the shower..... well at least I had my towel! There were several smaller aftershocks that day and the days after. So, here's the kids all trying to learn how to use their online resources in one room in case there's another earthquake while the internet went on and off because of the quake, while they were still rattled from the entire experience. Not the best day!
That next weekend we went to Spring City while still Social Distancing! We went to the park, tried to go to our property but it was still too snowy, and moved the tiny home from the person we bought it from's yard to Patsy's. Hopefully the weather will clear up quickly and we'll be able to move it up there soon!
